State agencies can no longer ask job candidates about their salary histories after new Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed an executive order to that effect.
Illinois thus joins 10 states, Puerto Rico and 10 local governments in one way or another banning salary history inquiries of job applicants. Colorado and Maine are expected to enact their own bans this year.
Salary history requests are said to extend wage inequality from one job to another. The executive order was signed Jan. 15.
